There were a huge range of race cars present, including some recent F1 cars, the 458 Challenge race cars, and also such racers as the Ferrari F40LM. Also there were the range of XX cars; the 599XX and FXX cars. While these are not race cars and in fact purchased by wealthy enthusiasts, these cars are clearly not comfort orientated.
At the end of the first day's running, there was to be a world record attempt. The attempt, was to get the most amount of cars on the same racetrack as possible. The spectacle was truly amazing: there were a grand total of 964 cars on the track at the same time. The driver of the lead car was none other than Felipe Massa. It took the car is 21 minutes to do a complete circuit. This was clearly done at walking pace but was still impressive nonetheless.
As is customary of the Sunday of a race weekend, this was the day for most of the races. First up were the 458 Challenge Cars with the first race of the day. This proved to be an exciting race, with lots of passing into the loop section. As quick as a flash, this first race of the day was over.
As I had VIP tickets for the weekend's action, I then decided to go watch the next part overlooking the pitlane entry and on the inside of Club corner. This was a great vantage point as I could see all the way up from the exit of Stowe corner, seeing them run down the hill towards Village, then through Club corner, then disappearing down the international pit straight. This proved to be beneficial, as going through Club, one of the cars peeled off onto the grass. It was unclear at this time what had happened, but as they drove across the grass to get to the pitlane, it became clear that they have been involved in an incident. There was some sort of fluid pouring out of the front of the car and that was the end of the race for that driver.
After watching the FXX and 599XX cars go round, it was back to the grandstand of the second corner, Farm. From here, I watched all of the days remaining racing and events, as this was the place that saw the most overtaking over the weekend. in the last race of the day, there was a huge accident, in which one of the drivers managed to completely write off his car. as there were no TV screens up at the circuit, we were a little unsure as to what happened. From seeing the car afterwards, it was clear that the driver had had a very big accident. Whatever he collided with, managed to completely wreck the front-end of the car as well as crumpling some of the roof and a pillar. Luckily, the roll cage remained intact and would have undoubtedly helped prevent the driver having serious injury.
